Recorded over Zoom during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, Canada Media Fund President & CEO Valerie Creighton, Executive Producer W. Paterson Ferns, actress Sheila McCarthy, entrepreneur Joseph Mandel and Grand Theatre London's Dennis Garnhum look back on the making of the iconic screen adaptation of John Murrell’s Waiting for the Parade (1984) in honour of the film’s rerelease in 2021, following a thirty-five-year
absence from the public domain.
Directed by Robin Phillips – former Artistic Director of the Stratford Festival - Waiting for the Parade stars Martha Henry, Sheila McCarthy, Donna Goodhand, Carole Shelley and Susan Wright. Canada’s most widely produced stage play, it tells the story of five Calgary women who respond very differently to civilian life during the Second World War, providing a portrait of Canadian society in the 40s through courage, humour and a
little music.
